Aviation Apps

According to this article from the New York Times[1], the FAA is giving airlines permission to replace the bulky flight bags filled with paper manuals with iPads.

With that in mind, here are some links to the apps listed in the article.

ForeFlight Mobile Aviation
The app requires a subscription to keep data current, but it provides weather, flight planning, airport facility data, and 15,000+ terminal procedures, FAA IFR & VFR charts, and FAA Terminal Area Charts for use offline.
Garmin Pilot My-Cast
This apps comes with a 30-day free trial. After that, a subscription is $9.99/month. Garmin a nationally-recognized GPS provider has created an app that allows you to view real-time weather data, the AOPA airport directory, maps, and flight planning utilizing DUATs.
Jeppesen Mobile TC
Though the app is free, it does require an electronic charting subscription from Jeppesen. If you have one, this app provides arrival, departure and approach procedures; chart change notifications; online updates; full-color, high-quality, vector-based data with amazing details and zoom capabilities; offline access to charting data subscriptions
WingX Pro7
Download the app for $0.99. It does require an annual subscription of $99.95 for full functionality. It includes A/FD, AOPA Directory, and Maps, approach charts, images, route planning, DUATs, etc. Viewing your aircraft’s location on an approach chart requires a ChartData subscription with Seattle Avionics. A 30-day Free Period is available.
