Editor-in-Chief’s Letter

Dear Readers,

November is a great time to be at Dowling College. Hopefully you are all looking forward to voting on Election Day, showing support on Veterans Day, and eating plenty of turkey on Thanksgiving. A few may even be looking forward to spending money on Black Friday. Throughout all of these festivities, Dowling College is excited to present students with opportunities to expand on their learning and make new connections in the community.

To begin, on November 2, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. in Fortunoff Hall Ballroom on the Oakdale Campus, Dowling College is hosting an advisement common hour for students to stop by with questions and wanting to register early. At 7:00 p.m. on November 4, 2011 the Psychology Club will be taking a trip to the Albert Ellis Institution for a live demonstration of REBT, with audience volunteers. The History Club will be hosting a Veterans Day event on November 9th, 2011 and the Council for Exceptional will be participating in 2011 Polar Plunge on November 19, 2011.

To learn more, go to the Dowling Clubs section of the newspaper and read all about the great activities going on around the campus that every student is welcome to attend. You can also learn more by visiting Dowling College’s current student website where all current club events are posted.

And as always, the Lion’s Voice is looking for writers. If you would like to have your voice heard, please contact me at Pxr17@Dowling.edu. Anything from Dowling news, professors, clubs, events, and so on will be accepted. Also, if you are interested in writing opinion or literary pieces, they are welcomed as well. And of course, should you want to write but are unsure of what topic to cover, just contact me and together we will figure something out.

SGA President’s Letter

Dear Student,

Happy Halloween! I hope you have been enjoying all of the festivities that we have had on campus. Our senators and executive board have been working very diligently to put the various activities and events together for Halloween and are gearing up for both Thanksgiving and the holidays. Our Brookhaven campus has been having great events that are bigger and better than ever, and I suggest you check out what is being offered out there.

I have also been working very hard on representing the students on various committees, making sure that your voice is heard. If you have an issue that you do not feel comfortable with discussing with an administrator, or do not know where to go, please feel free to contact me at anytime, and I will work to see if the problem can be resolved.

I would also like to take the time to congratulate Dr. David A. Ring, Vice President of College Administration and Student Affairs, as his service was recognized by La Familia for his support of the club, Hispanic community, and Dowling College. Congrats and great job!

In closing, I hope everyone is enjoying their semester, and I hope you are excited for all of the great things Dowling College has to offer.
