Rememberance
Paper trays are empty more frequently. The Infotrac database is not used as frequently. And her co-workers miss her. In October 2007 Dowling College Library was sad to see the passing of our dear friend and librarian, Cecilia Wilnau.
As a Reference Librarian and Adjunct Lecturer for Information Literacy, Cecilia was truly one of a kind. In addition to answering a reference question as efficiently as possible, you could count on Cecilia for a lively political discussion (she would be disappointed to learn that Richardson didn’t make it as a presidential contender) or for childcare advice (her two granddaughters were the love of her life and she spoke of them often).
Cecilia, born in the Bronx, held a master’s degree in library science from C.W. Post and a bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s College. She joined Dowling in 2001 as a “part-timer” after retiring from public librarianship at Connetquot Public Library. Cecilia spoke often of how proud she was to be part of the library community at Dowling. A week before her passing, she was scheduled to dine with her fellow librarians. Despite undergoing treatment for almost a year, she confirmed that she would be attending the dinner with her usual enthusiasm, “Count me in. I wouldn’t miss it.” We were equally as proud to have her as part of our extended family.
