At this time it is not known who did the magnificent carvings on this fireplace, or from what time period it dates. It is made of white sandstone, and is believed to have been imported from Europe. Click here for more about the Ballroom.

Ballroom Fireplace
Above the ballroom fireplace used to be the pipes of two Aeolian organs. One was a player organ, the other was a manual organ. That the ballroom doubled as a living hall and a music room during the Vanderbilt era is echoed in the musical motifs carved over the fireplace.
