This handbook’s focus is on all adolescent issues, not just those relating to girls, but each chapter covers an analysis of gender and sex differences. Commire, A. (Ed.). (1999) Women in world history: A biographical encyclopedia. (14 vols.). Waterford, : Yorkin Publications. This is an encyclopedia made entirely of women’s biography. “The scope is generally limited to women born before 1926, except for those active in the women’s movement or whose place in history is assured.” Reference HQ1115 .W6 1999
Forman-Brunell, M. (Ed.). (2001). Girlhood in America: An encyclopedia. (2 vols.). Santa Barbara, CA: ABC-CLIO. This is the first encyclopedia to deal specifically with the topic of girls’ culture. Throughout the encyclopedia particular attention is paid to race, class, and cultural diversity. Topics of interest which are included: Barbie, body image, and feminism among many others.
