Volume 1 of this bibliography focuses on the United States specifically. It covers history of the industry, regulation, individual airlines, and safety. Volume 2 covers aircraft and international airlines. Each section contains a brief introduction. In addition, the airliner entries contain a brief history, which in some cases is the only history available on a particular airline.

This site provides addresses and phone numbers for airlines, sales agents, cargo handlers, and express operators. It also allows you to track your shipments using the airway bill reference. It requires free registration.

EU Blacklist of Unsafe Airlines
"In 2006, the European Union banned 92 airlines, the vast majority of them from Africa. Declared unsafe according to international standards, they are not permitted to land at European airports. Most of the airlines are African, and include all 50 airlines from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The EU created the blacklist in response to several fatal airline crashes in Greece and Italy in 2005 and the fatal crash of Egypt's Flash Airlines in 2004, which led to the deaths of 148 passengers."

European Regions Airline Association
(ERA) This homepage provides member addresses, phone numbers, and fleet information for their member airlines. It also contains a fleet database with aircraft specifications and pictures.

Office of the Assistant Secretary for Aviation and International Affairs
This office of the DOT develops and coordinates national and international departmental policies in aviation. Looking under "International and Domestic Aviation," you will find full-text articles on the prevention of unfair competition practices in the domestic airline industry; a definition and statistics on essential air service; international and domestic fare information; aviation trade agreements including open skies and bilateral agreements; a list of codesharing relationships; and information on establishing and becoming a certified air carrier. Many of these documents are in PDF format.

Regional Airline Association
(RAA) This site provides a member directory of U.S. regional airlines, press releases, and a history of the association. It also provides many statistics, including airports served, current codesharing agreements, top regional aircraft, forecasts, and traffic statistics.

This report follows up on an earlier one, Winds of Change, which favored deregulation and studied its immediate effects on the airline industry. (ATAG) Founded by IATA, Airbus Industrie, and Boeing, this society works for the worldwide improvement of airport capacity. This site gives access to several of their publications, including North American Traffic Forecasts and European Traffic Forecasts.

Air Transport Association ONLINE
(ATA) Trade organization for principal US airlines, airline handbook, aviation dictionary, ATA Specs, index, searchable archive and database, industry statistics, links to aviation and government sites. Useful site map.

Airline Group of the International Federation of Operational Research Societies
(AGIFORS) This society works to enhance the practice of Operational Research within the airline industry. They represent over 100 airlines and air transport associations. The homepage provides a brief history, a searchable database of conference proceedings, job listings, and more.

FAA aerospace forecasts: Fiscal years 2006-2017
This report forecasts aviation activity at FAA facilities. It includes a U.S. and world economic assessment of commercial, commuter, and military avaition, historical data, and workload measures for FAA and contract towers. You can either view PDF files or download Excel files.

General Aviation Manufacturers Association
(GAMA) This national trade association provides statistics on general aviation as well as an industry review on their website.

General aviation statistical databook
Provides statistics on airplane shipments, fleet and flight use, pilots, and facilities. The data provides some historical background as well as current information. PDF format.

Global market forecast: 2007-2026
Forecasts the growth in air passenger traffic, cargo, and fleet over the next 20 years.

International Air Transport Association

International Civil Aviation Organization
(ICAO) Provides a history of the organization, news releases, contact information, and conference information. There is also a link to the ICAO library where a visitor can search their online catalog.

Joint Aviation Authorities
The JAA is an association of the joint civil aviation regulatory authorities of a number of European States. This goal of this association is to who have develop and implement common safety regulatory standards and procedures that align with those of the United States. As such, this site provides Section 1 of the Joint Aviation Regulations, as well as other publications, conference proceedings, and information on initiatives in all areas of aviation.

National Business Aviation Association, Inc.
(NBAA) The homepage of this association provides daily news briefs, information on upcoming conferences, and more. Some of the site is restricted to member access; however, you will find plenty of free full-text publications in their library. Those publications include the NBAA Digest (1995 - present ), Business Aviation Fact Book, and How to Start a Corporate Flight Department.

Yearbook 2007
This yearbook provides statistical information as well as information on technical developments, changes in fleet, traffic, and capacity for the member airlines of the Association of European Airlines. Member airlines include Aer Lingus, KLM, Lufthansa, and others.
