Group counseling consists of six to eight people who get together with a facilitator to talk about issues that concern
them. Group members are encouraged to share things about themselves and provide feedback to other group members. Working
in a group setting also provides individuals with an opportunity to try out new ways of relating to each other and to
learn about others' reactions to them.
The facilitator of the group is a professional. He or she does not control the group, but rather is there to help members understand their experiences and to help maintain an atmosphere of safety.
There are certain responsibilities members of the group have toward one another. The most important is confidentiality. It is also important to continue attending group meetings once you have made the decision to be part of the group. Growth groups can talk about many things including anxiety about meeting class requirements, familial relationships, personal relationships, loneliness, sex or drugs.
Groups provide a unique opportunity for personal growth. The number of group sessions may vary, depending on the goals of the group. Please call us for additional information and enrollment procedures.
