Orientation

Congratulations on your acceptance to Dowling College!

Summer Orientation is a two-day, overnight event where new students can get familiar with Dowling College before classes start.

Orientation Session Dates:

Session I – July 18 & 19

Session II – July 25 & 26

Orientation will include:

  • Meet with a faculty adviser
  • Register for courses
  • Take an english and math placement exam
  • Meet with the other first-year students
  • Get a head start on your college experience that will make your transition in September much easier.
  • Meet faculty and staff members and learn more about the expectations of the faculty-student relationship
  • Get your Student ID
  • Enjoy a concert and BBQ
  • Stay overnight in the residence halls
  • Finalize your financial aid
  • Have fun!

Arrival
We recommend that students arrive early; please plan to arrive by 9:30 a.m. for check-in. The program will begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.

Departure
The student program concludes around 2 p.m. on the second day of Orientation. Students should not plan to leave earlier unless arrangements have been made with the Admissions office.

Accommodations
All students attending Orientation will stay overnight in our residence hall. Meals will be provided throughout the program.

What to Bring

  • Casual comfortable clothes and shoes (very important – lots of walking)
  • Rain jacket & umbrella (just in case)
  • Toiletries including a towel
  • Pillow, sheets & blanket, or sleeping bag

Parents/Guardians Orientation – You are welcome to join us for your own Orientation program Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Orientation will include:

  • Introduction to Dowling College
  • An Academic overview
  • Transitioning your student to college
  • Financial planning
  • Meet Faculty
  • Tour Campus

Both Freshman and Transfer students are encouraged to attend one of the Summer Orientation sessions, and we invite families to attend both days, as well. Students will be housed overnight in a residence hall on campus. The orientation dates are July18, 19 and July 25, 26.
