The Master of Business Administration and School District Business Leader (MBA/SDBL) Advanced Certificate Program offers students an opportunity to acquire a combined graduate business degree and New York State Certification as a School District Business Leader. This is a joint program between the School of Education and the School of Business. Students must apply and be accepted into the Dowling MBA program and complete 18 graduate Business credits with a 3.0 GPA before taking any credits in the SDBL course of study. Students will complete 30 approved graduate credits in Business, 30 in Education and pass any state examination required for SDBL certification.

VI. Comprehensive Examination
All candidates who enroll must pass a digital portfolio comprehensive examination and the New York State license examination that is required.



NYS Certification Requirements:

  • You are required to complete 175 hours of professional development every 5 years.
  • You will need 3 years experience in leadership including a least one-year experience as a school leader to obtain professional certification.
  • You are required to complete the NYSTCE leadership assessment for the initial certification
  • Completion of Fingerprinting, workshops in school violence and intervention and in child abuse
