The Department of Earth and Marine Sciences at Dowling College offers three exciting degree programs: B.A. in Earth Science, B.A. in Marine Studies and B.S. in Environmental Science.

The B.A. in Earth Science will provide students an enhanced ability to analyze, inquire and design solutions to the myriad of concerns affecting our global environments. It will prepare students for employment in the physical sciences with course work developing their skills in ecosystem restoration, conservation of natural resources, geological sciences, energy and geo-technical applications in such areas as meteorology, astronomy, oceanography and geology. Students will better understand the dynamic changes of the earth from outer space to inner space. The degree can be applied to the requirements for teacher certification in Earth Science.

The B.S. in Environmental Sciences provides students a solid interdisciplinary expo- sure to this highly marketable field of employment. The degree prepares students for careers in environmental protection, and environmental remediation/restoration. Environmental issues are societal issues; consequently required courses will be drawn from natural sciences, humanities and social sciences. A strong emphasis on the rigors of scientific investigation, monitoring and mitigating will be part of this degree accomplished through a strong field program.

The B.A. in Marine Studies immerses students in coastal ecosystems; from barrier islands to coastal estuaries. Field experiences and internships with our cooperators "Atlantis Marine World", "Wildlife Conservation Society", "New York Aquarium", US Fish and Wildlife Service, USGS and other hands-on centers.
