General
- Is Dowling College a regionally accredited institution?
Absolutely! Dowling College is accredited by the Commission of Higher Education of the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, 3624 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA 19104-2680, (215) 662-5600. The School of Business is also accredited by the International Assembly for Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).

- What are the admission requirements?
ADMISSION CRITERIA AND REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
- Evidence of conferral of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Official transcripts from all previously attended colleges and universities demonstrating a cumulative undergraduate GPA of at least 2.8. A student whose GPA is below 2.8 but no less than 2.5 will be conditionally matriculated for the first 12 credits at Dowling in which he or she must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in order to achieve matriculation status. A student with a cumulative undergraduate GPA below 2.5 will be asked to demonstrate on his or her resume work experience with progressively increasing responsibility.
- A completed application and two letters of reference.
- A student whose first language is other than English must present one of three versions of the TOEFL test or the IELTS test. For full admission, the student presenting a TOEFL test must achieve a TOEFL score of 550 or above on the paper-based test (or at least 213 on the computer-based test, or 79 on the Internet-based test). If the student presents Dowling with the IELTS test, the Band score of 6.5 is equivalent to the above-mentioned TOEFL scores.
- Students must have either six undergraduate credits in Accounting, or three undergraduate credits in Accounting and three undergraduate credits in Finance. Students who have not fulfilled these requirements should contact the School of Business for advising options.

PROGRAM COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS
All candidates for Master of Business Administration program degrees are required to complete a minimum of 36 credits with a grade point average of not less than 3.0. Preparatory courses, if any, may be required in addition to the 36 credit program requirements.
- How do I apply for admission to the Online Graduate Studies program?
Applying online is the easiest and quickest way to begin the admissions process. To access on the online application, visit Apply Online. If you prefer paper submission, you may download the admissions application, complete, and submit via mail or fax (631) 244-5098. Remember to include the $50 application fee.
- Is there an application fee?
Yes. Due to the time commitment that is necessary in processing each application, there is a nominal application fee of $50.
- Is there a deadline for applications?
No. Applications can be submitted at any time of year.
- I have already applied. How do I check on the status of my application?

- What degree is awarded?
Dowling College is authorized to award the Master of Business Administration degree in Management and Leadership.
- How long will it take me to earn my degree?
Typically, it will take anywhere from 3 - 6 semesters to earn your degree.
- Can I complete a second MBA degree?
Yes.
- How many Dowling College credits do I need to earn?
You will need to earn 36 credits. Detailed program requirements can be found by clicking on Program Description on the homepage.
- Can I earn all of my credits at Dowling College?
Yes.
- Can I get credit for life/work experience?
Dowling College does not evaluate life credit experience, but does consider up to 6 credits of graduate transfer credits.
- How many of my credits will transfer?
Upon evaluation, Dowling College will transfer up to 6 credits of graduate transfer credits.
- Is financial aid available?
Yes.
Academic
- Do I need to own a computer to take the online learning courses?
You need reliable access to a computer if you want to take an online course.
- Do I need to come to campus if I take a course?
For online courses, you do not have to ever physically visit Dowling College. Courses can be conveniently completed via computer with Internet access.
- How long is each semester?
The semester runs for 7 weeks.
- Am I going to have an instructor and how can I get in touch with him/her?
Yes. All courses have instructors who are available by telephone or email to answer questions about the course. Their email addresses can be found at www.dowling.edu/online/faculty.shtm.
- How is testing done?
All testing will be done online.
- How is an exam and research papers graded?
All course assessments will be submitted to the Professor electronically. Many exams will self-grade, but some (depending on the discipline) may need the Professor to grade. All essay exams and research papers will be graded by the Professor with feedback being provided to you online. Your grades can be viewed on the Blackboard system.
- How much will it cost to earn my degree?
- How do I get my course materials and how much do they cost?
Your Professor will provide you a syllabus, in which he/she will describe the required textbook and materials. The direct link to our bookstore is www.dowling.bncollege.com. From there, students can click on the link that will allow them to purchase textbooks. Also students can purchase merchandise and supplies by clicking the appropriate links.

Registration
- How do I register for a course?
Registration is easy and handled online. Details will be provided to you upon acceptance into the program.
- When are the deadlines for course registration?
Registration deadlines vary depending on the semester for which you are registering. In general it is best to register early to ensure your place in the course.
Payment *
- What is the cost to take a online learning course?
Online learning courses are charged on a per credit rate. Please refer to the current year's tuition schedule, which can be found on the online homepage.
- Can I pay for my course with a payment plan?
Yes. Click on Tuition, Fees and Aid for detailed information.
- What if I'm applying for Financial Aid?
Information may be found by clicking on Tuition, Fees and Aid on the homepage.
* IMPORTANT: You must pay all course registration and late fees (if required) at the time of registration. These are NOT covered by financial aid. Until these fees are paid, you are not officially registered in your courses.
Technical Issues
- What if I have never taken an online course and do not know how to do it?
All online students are required to view the online demonstration course prior to beginning their "real" course. The demonstration course will show students how to navigate the course software. Students should have some general computer knowledge before starting a course.
- What are the computer requirements?
Due to the increasing need of technology in higher education, Dowling Colleges Distance Graduate Studies is utilizing internet resources for Department of Educational Administration, Leadership, and Technology academic programs. In order to be successful in the program, every student must have access to a computer with Internet access. Therefore students taking courses will need:
- A relatively recent IBM-compatible or Macintosh computer with an up-to-date operating system. We recommend at least 1GB of RAM, 40GB hard drive, and 1024 x 768 monitor resolution or greater.
- Access to the Internet through a high-speed broadband connection (DSL, Cable, Satellite or Wireless)
- Antivirus/antispyware software, with an updated subscription to keep it current
- Internet Explorer 6.0 or newer, or Firefox, Safari for Macs; AOL not directly supported
- Microsoft Office 2003 Professional or newer, including Microsoft PowerPoint and Microsoft Word (not WordPerfect)
- Adobe Acrobat Reader 7.0 or newer (for PDF files)

- If I am taking an online course is there a specific day or time that I have to go online?
The online courses are "asynchronous", which means students can log in to their course any time during the week to do course work. Students will have weekly assignments that must be completed on time. All online courses include a "threaded discussion", where students "post" comments during the week. Some courses include weekly team assignments that may require students to "meet" online at a specific time agreed to by the team members (synchronously).
- Where do I get my password for my online course?
Please remember that your Blackboard password and your email password is not the same, although your username is the same. If the student has forgotten the password, please send an email to blackboard@dowling.edu or call Tim Kelly at 631 244-3157.
- How do I log in to my Blackboard (online) course?
Go to MyDowling Student Intranet and click on the Blackboard link. Then, click Login. Type in the username and password assigned to you (your Dowling College email address). Click on the course title at the right side of the screen, and away you go!
Policies
- How do I withdraw from a course?
- If I start a course but cannot complete it, can I get a refund?
Go to Registration and Student Records Central and click on the Drop/Add/Withdraw link. Fax the completed form to the Office of the Registrar's at 631 244- 3252. You may receive a tuition refund depending on when you withdraw from the course. All registration, late, and payment plan fees are non-refundable.
