Dowling College Names Rick Cole, Jr., Athletic Director

Dowling College has named Rick Cole, Jr., Athletic Director, effective October 1, 2004. Cole is currently Senior Associate Athletic Director at St. John's University.

"Rick Cole comes to us at the best possible time. Dowling's athletic program is poised to enter a great new era. Rick has the experience, energy and proven ability to help elevate Dowling's intercollegiate sports to the position of prominence and respect we seek," said Albert E. Donor, President of Dowling College.

"I am thrilled at the opportunity to serve as Athletic Director of Dowling College. I look forward to working closely with President Donor, the Dowling Board of Trustees, coaches, alumni and student-athletes as together we make Dowling's dreams reality," Cole said. "There are great things about to happen at Dowling College".

Cole received his BA in 1992 and an MA in Education in 1994, both from the State University at Buffalo. Prior to his current position, he served as Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs at St. John's University. He was Stony Brook University's Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs and Advancement from 1997 to 2002, and Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing from 1995 to 1996. From 1994 to 1995 he served as Assistant Director of Marketing & Promotions at SUNY Buffalo.

Cole is an accomplished volleyball coach, serving as head coach of the AAU Long Island Power Volleyball Club 18's (1995-2002), University at Buffalo's Men's Volleyball Club Team (1993, 1995), and the AAU Cheetah Volleyball Club of Western New York (1992-1995). He was founder and director (1992-2001) of Intensive Volleyball Training Camp.

"A few months ago at our Brookhaven campus, Dowling College broke ground on a terrific new student activity center and playing fields," noted John Racanelli, Chairman of the Dowling College Board of Trustees. "For the first time in Dowling College history our student-athletes will have the home team advantage utilizing our own on-campus facilities. Now with Rick Cole serving as Athletic Director, we are confident that all of the ingredients necessary for success are in place."

Dowling College offers a variety of men\'s and women\'s intercollegiate sports, which compete in NCAA Division II, including Men's baseball, basketball, golf, lacrosse, soccer and tennis; Women's basketball, cross country, softball, tennis and volleyball. Dowling's men's and women's crew teams are recognized as among the best in the nation. Dowling College is also a member of the NYCAC (New York College Athletic Conference) and the ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference). Dowling earned the 1998 and 2000 NYCAC Commissioner\'s Cup award that recognizes the best overall athletic program in the conference.
