Dowling College and News 12 Seek Long Island's Best Teachers

Who are Long Island's best teachers? Dowling College's School of Education and News 12 Long Island will find out as they honor Long Island's most accomplished educators in the 2004-2005 Dowling College/News 12 Long Island Educator of the Month Award Program, launched today.

"Our teachers are a most valuable community resource, and educators of Nassau and Suffolk counties are among the best in the world. It is most important we continue to recognize the strength of our schools and their value to our community's success," said Dr. Clyde Payne, Associate Provost of Dowling's School of Education.

Twelve years ago News 12 and Michael DeLuise, an administrator at Hofstra University, created the Educator of the Month Award Program. Now the highly recognized and successful Educator of the Month Award Program and Mr. DeLuise have both moved to Dowling College.

Nominations are now being accepted from schools throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties. Nominations must include a personal letter of recommendation, a resume of the nominated teacher, and any additional letters of support and backup material (newspaper articles, special recognitions, etc.) in support of the candidate.

All recommendations must be received by Dowling College by October 15, 2004. A committee of distinguished educators will select the monthly winners, who will be notified in November. Dowling College and News 12 will visit the winning teacher's school to present the award. A special feature on the award-winning teacher will air each month on News 12.

This spring the 2004-2005 award winners and their guests will be honored at a special dinner in June, 2005.
