Karen Morrison, a senior from Lindenhurst High School, was awarded a $5,000 annual scholarship through the Dowling College/Lindenhurst High School Early College Program.
The Dowling College/Lindenhurst High School Early College Program Scholarship is awarded to a student who has excelled in high school while taking courses for college credit. Karen overcame many obstacles to maintain her 93 average in high school and a 3.24 GPA in her college courses.
Karen plans to become a teacher, and will enroll at Dowling College in September. She follows in the footsteps of her mother, who received her bachelor's degree in Special Education from Dowling College in 2004.
Dowling College offers its Early College Program in several Long Island school districts. Classes are taught in the students' high school, feature college-level curriculum, and are taught by high school teachers who meet Dowling's academic requirements. Students receive college credit for their coursework while satisfying the requirements for high school graduation. Credits earned are posted to the students' college transcript and are transferable to virtually all colleges and universities.
