Dowling College Announces Spring Music Concert Series

Dowling College will present a series of music concerts during May. All performances will take place in the Fortunoff Hall Ballroom on Dowling's Rudolph Campus in Oakdale and are free and open to the public.

Jazz Concert The Dowling College Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Sonny Dallas, will perform its spring concert on Monday, May 3 at 8 p.m. All selections will be announced at the show. Having played with some of the world's great jazz musicians in his long and distinguished career, Mr. Dallas recently received The Legend of the Year Award by the Islip High School Jazz Program and was named one of the top ten jazz bass players in the world by Downbeat and Metronome magazines.

Choir Concert The Dowling College Choir, directed by Ron Armanini, will present its spring concert on Tuesday, May 11 at 8:15 p.m. The choir will open with the "Kyrie in Mass G" by Johann Sebastian Bach, and follow with two spiritual selections, "I'll Hear the Trumpet Sound", and William S. Dawson's "Soon Ah' Will Be Done". Selections from Carmina Burana by Carl Orff; as well as selections from other composers will also be featured.

Wind & Chamber Ensemble The Dowling College Wind & Chamber Ensemble, under the direction of Reynard Burns, will perform its spring concert featuring works by Arcangelo Corelli, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, William Grant Still, Henry Purcell, and Scott Joplin on Thursday, May 13, at 7 p.m.

Orchestra Concert The Dowling College Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Charles Weinsoff, Conductor, will perform its spring concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 16. The concert will open with Tschaikowsky's "Swan Lake Suite"; the second piece will be "Symphony No. 8 'Unfinished'" by Schubert, and the final composition to be played will be "Symphony No. 2 D Major" by Beethoven.
