Dr. Robert Youth Elected President of National Psychology Society
Dr. Robert Youth, Professor of Psychology at Dowling College and a resident of East Patchogue, has been elected President of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology. In a national election just completed, the more than 1,000 chapters of Psi Chi elected Dr. Youth over two other candidates from Florida and Texas. The purpose of the organization is to encourage, to stimulate, and to maintain excellence in the field and to advance the science of psychology.
Dr. Youth has been a member of the faculty at Dowling College for 28 years. During his tenure he has held many leadership positions including having served as Psychology Department Chairperson for 25 years. Dr. Youth has also been the project director for two National Science Foundation grants, and, he was President of the Personnel / Industrial-Organizational Psychology Division of the New York State Psychological Association. Dr. Youth is also the Executive Director of the Long Island Organizational Psychology Institute (LIOPI).
Dr. Youth, who has been a member of Psi Chi since 1967, will serve as President-elect (2004-2005), President (2005-2006), and past-President (2006-2007). He will serve as a member of the Psi Chi Executive Committee and on the Psi Chi National Board from 2004-2007.
Founded in 1929, Psi Chi has registered more than 400,000 members in its 75-year history. In 1965, Psi Chi became a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and it has the largest number of chapters of any of the over 55 societies holding membership in the ACHS.
