Dowling College Professor Selected to Judge Prestigious Big Apple Awards

OAKDALE, NY – The New York chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, the world's largest organization of public relations professionals, has named Dowling College Adjunct Professor Robert Perilla, to serve as a judge of the industry's prestigious Big Apple Awards. The awards recognize outstanding public relations programs created and conducted by organizations in the tri-state region. Competing for the awards are all businesses, hospitals, schools, associations, military, government and professional services, counseling firms, independent practitioners and non-profit organizations.

Robert Perilla, a resident of East Hills, New York, is president of Public Relations Marketing, Inc., a diversified agency serving local, national and international clients. For the past three years, he has been teaching Graduate and Undergraduate marketing and communication courses at Dowling College's Oakdale campus. This is the sixth consecutive year that Mr. Perilla has been selected by his peers to judge the awards.

In announcing the competition judging appointment, Irene Maslowski, President-Elect of the Public Relations Society of America-NY, stated, "for the past 22 years our judges have been a 'who's who' of senior public relations professionals from the tri-state area. Their support plays an important role in continuing to improve the standards by which communications excellence is measured."

"Teaching at Dowling College enables me to share my 25 years of hands-on experience with students who are the future of our industry," notes Mr. Perilla. "Dowling's teaching philosophy is what first attracted me to the school. Its focus is to provide its national and international students with a mix of learning from a teaching staff of noted educators and working professionals. This semester my graduate class in Marketing Management offers a perfect example. It includes students from Long Island, New York City, India, Turkey and China."

The coveted Big Apple Awards will be announced and presented at a gala Rainbow Room dinner in May.
