Dowling College Food Angels Donate $1,300 for AIDS Care on Long Island

OAKDALE, NY – Dowling College students and staff raised funds to help support the 2nd annual "Food Angel Project" started by Dr. Bill Thierfelder, Associate Professor of English at Dowling College. The generous efforts of the Dowling College community resulted in $1,300 in super market gift cards that were distributed to The Long Island Association for AIDS Care (LIAAC) and Thursday's Child, whose clients have been cut off from Ryan White Care Act funding. Students from Dowling were integral in the fundraising efforts, especially the Student Government Association, who auctioned off 2 spots to their Winter Ski Trip.

Dr. Thierfelder, along with Dowling College President Robert J. Gaffney and Student Government President, Anthony Harris, presented the super market gift cards to Leslie Ducet, Director of Client Services at LIAAC, and Greg Noone, Program Manager at Thursday's Child.

"In this economic downturn, service providers like LIAAC and Thursday's Child need help, and I am proud that we were able to make a difference again this year," said Dr. Thierfelder.

Anyone interested in supporting this endeavor can send Thursday's Child tax-deductible checks throughout the year.
