Mr. Stephen C. Pagano of the Freeport UFSD District Named Dowling
College/News 12 Long Island Educator of the Month
Mr. Stephen C. Pagano, Current Choral teacher and Choral Director of
Freeport High School, has been named a 2008-2009 Dowling College/News 12
Long Island Educator of the Month. Nominations were accepted from
schools throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties, and a committee of
distinguished educators selected the winners.
Mr. Pagano, a master teacher and conductor of music, has helped both
the orchestra and chorus successfully prepare county choral festival
sectionals for over 30 years at the request of the Nassau County NYSSMA
organization. He has prepared his Select Chorale to tour extensively
throughout Eastern United States, Canada and Europe. In addition, he has
served with his choral groups at the Tilles Center, for community
celebrations, Channel 12, Shea Stadium, the Capitol Building in
Washington DC and St. Patrick's Cathedral, and his chorus was the only
chorus selected to sing for the 100th anniversary of Ellis Island.
Under his tutelage, the choir was invited to Carnegie Hall to perform
for Mid-America Productions for seven years, and has been the only NYS
public school to do so. Mr. Pagano is a sought after clinician,
specializing in demonstrating a wide range of choral methods for young
voices, adult choirs and students of music.
Mr. Pagano has been recently selected for the NYSSMA DVD project where
the produced DVD will be part of the Music Views-Standards Based
Teaching and Learning Across New York State for Music Education. He also
serves as the musical director of the Freeport High School musicals, and
has created three original musical reviews. He is an instructor at Five
Towns College teaching Choral Methods at the graduate level. He has
received accolades for his work from Nassau County legislators, school
officials and college and university music professors. He is recently
planning a concert tour of Spain this coming spring for his select
chorale.
Dr. Clyde Payne, Dean of Dowling's School of Education says, "Mr.
Stephen Pagano is one of the many remarkable teachers Long Island has to
offer, and it is an honor to provide him with the educator of the month
award for his inspirational and outstanding service as a teacher." A
TV spot featuring Mr. Pagano will be shown on News 12 for a two week
period, and Mr. Pagano along with his colleagues will be honored again
at Awards Dinner in June.
