Dowling College Roundtable Explores What The Presidential Candidates' Economic Policies Will Cost Long Island

"Which candidate for President of the United States has the economic policy that will benefit hard working Long Islanders?" "That question, said Martin Cantor, Director of the Long Island Economic and Social Policy Institute, will be the focus of the Roundtable for Long Island's Future," held at Dowling College on September 12, 2008.

Mr. Cantor asked, "during a recession, which policy is the wisest: the policy of Senator Barack Obama's (D) on raising taxes on corporations and individuals earning over $250,000 or Senator McCain (R) who wants to make permanent the Bush tax cuts and cut corporate taxes?"

Delving into these questions and more with presidential surrogates will be Dowling College Distinguished Economic Scholar, Dr. Irwin Kellner and Dowling College Professor of Economics, Dr. Ed Gullason, who has also served as a staffer to President Reagan's Council of Economic Advisors.

Representing the presidential candidates will be the Long Island campaign directors for Senator Barack Obama and Senator John McCain; respectively, Suffolk County Legislator and Democratic Majority Leader Jon Cooper (D. Huntington) and Assemblyman Phil Boyle (R. Islip).

Mr. Cantor concluded, "with the forces of the global economy weighing heavily on the domestic economy, the next four years are critical to how the household budgets of Long Islanders will fare."
