In this information age, the world is fast becoming a global village. Today's educational enter¬prise needs to reflect this fast changing phenomenon in its practice.  It is relevant to look at the international educational vision of Rebindranath Tagore. He was a poet, artist, philosopher, Nobel Prize winner for literature, and above all, an outstanding educator. Tagore's educational vision was based on his philosophy of harmony and fullness and was also founded on ancient Indian tradition of Ashram education. He feels that true education was that which made our life in harmony with all existence. Tagore tried to realize his educational vision in his schools that eventually became Visva-Bharai University where the world makes its home in a single nest.

As the "Globalism: One World" concept is becoming a reality, fostering international education is an imperative today. Its educational implications are manifold. It prevents misunderstanding, hostility, and war. More positively, it leads humanity to peace and prosperity. It assists us to appreciate the beauty of diversity and fosters multiculturalism and democracy. It helps us to cherish what connects us as human beings and to celebrate our common heritage.

Francis A. Samuel is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Human Development and Learning, School of Education at Dowling College. A teacher, Assistant Principal, Principal, and presently a Professor of Education, Dr. Samuel has been an educator for last twenty three years. He has published in his native language many books and articles, including a novel and a collection of short stories.  His scholarly works appear in Encyclopedia of Education and Human Development on John Dewey and many scholarly journals; his latest educational article appears in Eastern Education Journal entitled: "Total Literacy: Kerala as a Template for Emerging India and Other countries."
