Mrs. Rosanne Schoen, Speech/Language Pathologist, Meadowbrook & Parkway Elementary Schools, East Meadow UFSD, has been named a 2007-2008 Dowling College/News 12 Long Island Educator of the Month. Nominations were accepted from schools throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties, and a committee of distinguished educators selected the winners.

Compassionate, knowledgeable, committed and steadfast are only a few words to describe her talent in working for students and parents. Colleagues often will rely on her expertise to assist with students who are displaying extreme difficulty in the area of speech and language. Mrs. Schoen is described as an excellent diagnostician in determining the language needs of students. In a letter of recommendation, Mrs. Schoen is described as "being our greatest resource, Roseanne has also proven to be our compass and our beacon." Mrs. Schoen was also recommended for being awed by the uncanny wealth of information that she has at her disposal. Her influence transcends the entire East Meadow School District on all levels; elementary, middle and secondary. Parents find solace in the compassionate way they are treated by Roseanne and teachers find strength and validation in her wise counsel and guidance

Dr. Clyde Payne, Dean of Dowling's School of Education says, "Since Long Island is known for having the best teachers in the nation, and we received so many nominations from across Nassau and Suffolk, Rosanne Schoen is truly a remarkable educator." A special feature announcing Mrs. Schoen's award will air soon on News 12. In June the award winners and their guests will be honored at a special dinner.
