Scholarship Benefit Luncheon a Success in Raising Funds For a New Dowling College Scholarship

OAKDALE, NY – Dowling College Undergraduate Senior and Student Government Association Chairman Kelvin King hosted a scholarship benefit luncheon on January 26th, 2008. At this event, the Sandra Blake Memorial Scholarship Foundation in collaboration with Dowling College raised $2,000 for the newly formed "Sandra Blake Memorial Scholarship." This scholarship will become available to Dowling College students who demonstrate financial need in the 2008-2009 school year. "I am thankful for the overwhelming support of the college, particularly the SGA leadership, " says Kelvin King. "Mike DeLuise, Cynthia Grossman, Dr. David Ring and the SGA have been working with me on this project since June of 2007. Without their support, this would not have been possible, " said King. At the event, Tuskegee Airman William Samber and 14 year old genetic disease survivor, Yonairis Smith, was honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards. Six other college graduates were awarded the Sandra Blake Memorial Acknowledgement Awards. This scholarship is dedicated to the life and memory of Sandra Blake who died of cancer in 2005.
