Expand Your Horizons with Dowling College's Continuing Education New Saturday Courses
Dowling College's Continuing Education department is now offering a host of new weekend courses. Over 30 continuing education courses for the general community are offered through the Dowling Institute, including in-service courses for educators and professional courses leading to certification for work in real estate, financial services, and personal training. Other courses include driver's education, beginner computer courses, belly dancing, guitar and much more.
The Power of Presence is a new Saturday class that teaches practical self defense and is created for women, by women. Through a blend of lecture and workouts, this course will help you to develop confidence and power, increase awareness, use your presence to avoid being a target, and get a great workout. This class will be from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. at the Oakdale Campus Performing Arts Center Room 110 on Saturdays: 1/26, 2/2, 2/9, 3/1, 3/8 & 3/15.
The Beginner/Intermediate Watercolor course is a new Saturday class where participants will learn the basics of watercolor or have the opportunity to refresh their talent. Materials list will be provided before the first class and a still life will be provided by the instructor. This class will be from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. on the Oakdale Campus Kramer Science Center Room 102 on Saturdays: 1/19, 1/26, 2/2, 2/9, 3/1 & 3/8.
An Intriguing Day in New York City includes a trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art & The Cloisters. Participants will join Dr. Stephen Lamia of Dowling College for a guided tour of the Met that will include highlights of the paintings and sculptures. The day will resume with a guided tour of The Cloisters, the uptown branch of the Met, which houses an outstanding collection of medieval art and architecture. Participants will meet at the Tennis Courts on the Oakdale campus. The trip will take place on Saturday, May 10, 2008 and departure is 9:00 a.m. and the return trip leaves NYC at 3:00 p.m.
