Dowling College's New B.S. in Applied Mathematics Prepares Students For Careers in Specialized Growth Industries

Dowling College is pleased to announce its new B.S. in Applied Mathematics degree program, which starts in the Fall 2008 semester. This degree is designed to prepare students for employment in specialized fields, requiring strong analytical skills within growing and/or new industries such as bio-technology, engineering, economic analysis, pharmaceutical research, aviation science and advanced scientific computer programming. This degree is also designed to prepare students to pursue graduate study in applied math.

The B.S. in Applied Mathematics has four tracks, including two that are industry specific: aviation science and bioengineering; and the following two applied mathematics concentrations that are desirable in many growth industries: computational mathematics and mathematical economics.

Career preparation in the above-named fields is an important feature of this new program. "Growth and new industries are the target markets for students in this program," said Paul Abramson, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences.

"The knowledge gained by students who successfully complete this new program will be essential for many industries across Long Island and the region," said Provost Linda Ardito, who adds, "Our new program is designed to enable students to excel in highly technical and professional areas and to fill high-demand positions. Certainly there is a growing need for well-educated professionals to fill such positions, and I am confident that the graduates of this program will be prepared to meet industry demands."
