OAKDALE, NY – Marguerite Robles, a first grade classroom teacher in an inclusion setting in the Malverne School District, has been named a 2007 Dowling College/News 12 Long Island Educator of the Month. Nominations were accepted from schools throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties, and a committee of distinguished educators selected the winners.

Mrs. Robles, who has been an integral part of the Malverne School District learning community for the past 15 years, works daily to develop and implement effective, research-based literacy programs and her classroom has become a model for Balanced Literacy instruction in the district. As an active member of the district's Balanced Literacy Committee, Mrs. Robles has taken a leading role in investigating and implementing literacy programs designed to support all learners in the classroom. Principal Edward Tallon states that Mrs. Roble's "enthusiasm and her passion for learning permeates throughout the whole school. Students are motivated to excel and reach their highest potential."

In a letter of recommendation, Principal Dr. Lena Richardson, states that "In the classroom Mrs. Robles is most interested in providing opportunities for all students. She is always interested in learning new techniques and strategies that will help the children learn."

Dr. Clyde Payne, Dean of Dowling's School of Education says, "Since Long Island is known for having the best teachers in the nation, and we received so many nominations from across Nassau and Suffolk, Marguerite Robles is truly a remarkable educator." A special feature announcing Mrs. Robles's award has aired on News 12. In June the award winners and their guests will be honored at a special dinner.
