John Adam Kanas To Address 1,000 Graduates At Dowling College's 45th Commencement
Tuesday Morning On May 22nd At The Nassau Veteran's Memorial Coliseum In Uniondale, N.Y.

OAKDALE, NY – John Adam Kanas, recognized businessman and President, CEO and Vice Chairman of Capital One's Bank, will address an estimated 1,000 graduates and their families at Dowling College's 45th Commencement ceremony on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the Nassau Veteran's Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y.

"As we celebrate Dowling College's 45th Commencement, my first as President of Dowling, I am thrilled that John Kanas, who has stayed true to his Long Island roots and enriched the quality of life in his community, will address and inspire our graduates and their families," said Robert J. Gaffney, President of Dowling College. Mr. Kanas will receive an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.

Mr. Kanas, philanthropic community leader and dynamic industry figure, serves as President, CEO and Vice Chairman of Capital One's Bank. He has distinguished himself as a leader of a company that was recognized as one of the most profitable and efficient banking companies in the country. Mr. Kanas was admired for his leadership role as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of North Fork Bancorporation, Inc., the sixteenth largest bank holding company in the United States, from 1977 until its recent acquisition by Capital One Financial Corporation in December 2006. In his current role with Capital One he presides over the banking subsidiary which includes North Fork Bank, the former Hibernia Bank in Louisiana and Texas, and Capital One Direct Bank in Richmond, Virginia, which has over 16,000 employees spread out over four states with nearly 800 branch offices.

Mr. Kanas has served on many professional, academic and community boards and organizations. He will soon receive the Woodrow Wilson Award for Corporate Citizenship.
