Deborah Lang of Longwood School District Named Dowling College/News 12 Educator of the Month

OAKDALE, NY - Deborah Lang, a technology teacher in the Longwood School District, has been named a 2007 Dowling College/News 12 Long Island Educator of the Month. Nominations were accepted from schools throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties, and a committee of distinguished educators selected the winners.

Ms. Lang is commended for her commitment to the school's robotics program. Patricia A. Poggio, Longwood JHS Technology Chairperson, states "It's a tremendous undertaking and she has been with the program from the beginning-working to raise funds, garner community support with her booster club, involve businesses and especially excite students about the field of engineering. Through it all she has had to become an insatiable learner and indefatigable teacher."

In a letter from a parent, Ms. Lang is described as "a teacher, a mentor, a coach and most certainly, a role model for our children."

Dr. Clyde Payne, Dean of Dowling's School of Education says, "Since Long Island is known for having the best teachers in the nation, and we received so many nominations from across Nassau and Suffolk, Deborah Lang is truly a remarkable educator."

A special feature announcing Ms. Lang's award has aired on News 12. In June the award winners and their guests will be honored at a special dinner.
