Step Back in Time to Visit Teddy Roosevelt's Long Island
Celebrate Long Island with Historian John E. Hammond as he presents on the youngest President in the Nation's history, Theodore Roosevelt. Learn about Roosevelt's strong ties with Long Island, his energetic personality, and his fascinating life with leading expert John E. Hammond. This presentation on the "trust buster" will take place on Dowling College's historic Rudolph Campus in Oakdale in the Fortunoff Hall Hunt Room on Thursday, April 12 at 6:00 p.m.
John E. Hammond is will known for his most recent book, Oyster Bay Remembered, with stories about Captain Kidd, George Washington's spy Culper Jr., a slave escape, Civil War letters, a mail-bomb attempt to assassinate Theodore Roosevelt, Typhoid Mary and more. John Hammond is the author of four books, including Matinecock Light, When the Sirens Sound: The History of the Atlantic Steamer Fire Company and the Fire Service in Oyster Bay, and Crossroads: A History of East Norwich.
John E. Hammond has a B.A. from the University of the State of New York, and is a graduate of the Institute of Far Eastern Languages at Yale University. Hammond is a Trustee of the Oyster Bay Historical Society, a past President of the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library, a frequent lecturer on Oyster Bay History and a consultant on historic preservation.
This event is part of Dowling College's yearlong series of events "Celebrating Long Island" and is free and open to the public. Provost Linda Ardito feels that "this event continues the momentum of our interesting and informative theme events in celebration of Long Island and all of its richness".
