Oakdale, NY - The Anthony Giordano Gallery at Dowling College presents a retrospective of one of the leading 20th century American Abstract Expressionist painters, Milton Resnick. Entitled Milton Resnick: The Life of Paint, the show features work spanning the 1940s to the early years of the 21st century. The canvases celebrate the infusion of life into the brushstrokes of paint, a key element of the artist's style. It also marks the first comprehensive showing of Resnick's art since his passing in 2004.

At the age of 5, Milton Resnick emigrated from Russia making the United States his home. Initially he studied commercial art at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn before transferring to fine arts at the American Artists School. This move sealed his fate: he became a principal figure of the avant-garde New York art world during the 1940s and 50s. According to critics, Mr. Resnick's thickly layered impasto surfaces demonstrate his approach to unifying foreground with background space in his work. Although contemporary with Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning, Milton Resnick's approach to his art never departed from the traditional application of paint brushed on canvas. His paintings do not try to replicate the world around us; through color, shape and the stroke of his brush he created an emotive portal for the viewer.

Located at the corner of Idle Hour Boulevard and Biltmore Avenue in Oakdale, The Anthony Giordano Gallery at Dowling College is dedicated to exhibiting and promoting contemporary, innovative, and experimental work by established artists, unaffiliated artists, emerging artists, and artists primarily from the New York tri-state metropolitan area. Through exhibitions and education programs the gallery reflects, reinforces, and complements the curricular dimensions of the Visual Arts Department and addresses the cultural life and enrichment of the Dowling College community, the public, artists, and the Oakdale community at large.

Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sunday 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Admission is free. For more information, please call 631.244.3016 or visit us on line at www.dowling.edu.
