Dowling College Community To Take Great Strides For Cystic Fibrosis
On Sunday, September 24, Dowling College will host "GREAT STRIDES Taking Steps to Cure Cystic Fibrosis," a new three-mile walk coordinated by The Long Island Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The route will take walkers through the beautiful, historic neighborhoods surrounding the campus, located at 150 Idle Hour Blvd. in Oakdale, NY.
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease affecting the lungs and digestive systems of over 30,000 children and young adults in the United States today. GREAT STRIDES has become the CF Foundation's largest and fastest growing fund-raiser to support cutting edge science and has raised millions of dollars to continue extending the length and improving the quality of life for people suffering from this disease. Nationally, the CF Foundation hopes to raise $30 million this year to continue this trend. The CF Foundation of Long Island had four successful walks in May 2006 and is targeted to reach a fundraising goal of $677,000 for GREAT STRIDES 2006.
Participants are encouraged to collect pledges for the GREAT STRIDES Dowling Walk, and come together with friends, family, neighbors and co-workers in an effort to find a cure for CF. Food, entertainment, and a fun atmosphere will be provided to walkers and volunteers. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10 a.m. For more information or to register to walk, contact Nancy Miller at 631-680-0327, e-mail: NancyMiller@SuffolkVeterinaryGroup.com or Emily Clark at the CF Foundation at 516-827-1290, e-mail: eclark@cff.org.
