OAKDALE, NY - Dowling College was recently recognized by Long Island Blood Services with the prestigious "Diamond Award," the highest category award for the percentage of participants in the 2005 blood drives held at the College's two campuses.

Dr. H.E. Broadbent, III, Dowling's Vice President of Institutional Advancement and Blood Drive Chairman, and Sue Voss, Director of Health Services and College Nurse, were presented with the award at the Blood Donor Group Recognition Dinner on May 11 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury.

Each year, Dr. Broadbent forms a Blood Drive Committee that meets regularly and initiates creative incentives to spur donations from the College-wide community. Dowling has substantially increased donation rates with fun, inspiring competitions among employees and students, as well as various coupons and incentives.

"Dowling was recognized for being the most innovative campus and going above and beyond in their efforts to increase collections," said Karen Muscolino, Assistant Director of Donor Recruitment, Long Island Blood Services. "The Dowling College Blood Drive Committee is the ideal model for schools and businesses looking to increase their participation as Blood Drive Centers."

"The generous participation of our students, staff, administration and neighbors is a reward in itself. It is an honor to coordinate an event with the sole intent of giving the gift of life," said Dr. Broadbent.
