Enjoy a 'Listening Tour of South Shore History' on the Dowling Library Web Site
OAKDALE, NY - The Library at Dowling College has unveiled a "Listening Tour of South Shore History," a special section of their web site, which enables visitors to download podcast interviews with Long Island historians, authors and experts.
Located at http://www.dowling.edu/library/maps/oakdale.html, the tour is presented as a map of Long Island with pinpoints directing viewers to areas such as Blue Point, the Idle Hour Mansion in Oakdale and the Sayville Historical Society. Once a pinpoint is selected, users can download and listen to local history segments from the Library's monthly podcast on their computer or MP3 player. For instance, users interested in Oakdale can enjoy an interview with Pat Hogeboom, author and historian, or information related to the Sayville Historical Society, featuring interviews with Society administrator Linda Conron and president Charlie Oelkers.
"There is a tremendous amount of history right in our backyard and we have resourceful, knowledgeable individuals who have so much to share. With the Listening Tour and our podcasts we are trying to open up that history in a new and exciting way," said Chris Kretz, Instructor/Reference Librarian, Dowling College. The Listening Tour will continue to grow, with new interviews and stories planned.
The Dowling College Library has been podcasting since October, 2005. For past episodes of Omnibus, their monthly podcast of news, information, and reports on the College and Long Island, visit: http://www.dowling.edu/library/newsblog/podcasts.asp.
