Dowling Institute Offers Kayaking Course On Connetquot River - Begins Friday, June 23
Want to go out in more advanced environments than lakes and ponds? Want to be able maneuver our kayak with confidence, take care of yourself, and support other paddlers with us? Want to learn something about waves, wind and current? How do these factors affect our kayak and how do we handle them? How do we plan for a safe and enjoyable trip? Let's find out! Topics to be covered include: personal preparation, equipment, kayak carries, car topping, launching and landing, wet exits, basis strokes, assisted and unassisted recoveries, hypothermia/cold shock, risk management, group management, communication, rules of the road. No prior experience necessary

Instructor: Elizabeth O'Connor - 12 hours
Sea Kayaking Skills and Adventures, Ltd.
Elizabeth O'Connor is founder and head instructor for SKSA. She grew up around and on the waters of Long Island. Elizabeth has trained extensively with the American Canoe Association, is one of only two instructors on Long Island with Open Water Coastal certification and is currently serving as Divisional Instructional Facilitator for the ACA - Atlantic Division. She holds current certification for ARC: First aid and CPR. Elizabeth also is an avid kayak racer. She has successfully defended her title of National Champion Woman's Sea Kayak racer for the U.S. Canoe Association (USCA) four years running from 2001 to 2004. Elizabeth brings a depth of educational resources and experiences to her classes and tours that goes beyond her qualifications as a trainer of advanced kayaking skills
