Dowling College Presents Drug Education Prevention Workshops
12-Week Community Education Series Is Free And Open To The Public

Dowling College Health Services, in collaboration with the Town of Islip ACCESS-Department of Human Services, is sponsoring a 12-week Drug Education Prevention Program workshop series available free-of-charge to the general public.

Each workshop will focus on a specific aspect of substance abuse, and feature films and discussion followed by a question-and-answer period led by counselor Ken Quarles.

Workshops will be held on Wednesday evenings, February 4 through May 5 (excluding February 18 and April 7) from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in the Fortunoff Hall Study on Dowling College's Rudolph Campus in Oakdale.

Scheduled topics are as follows:

February 4th: Overview of Substance Abuse and Addiction
February 11th: Alcohol and Alcoholism
February 25th: Overview of Prescription Drug Abuse
March 3rd: Cocaine, Crack, Heroin, and Methadone
March 10th: Young People: Drugs of Abuse: Marijuana-Club Drugs
March 17th: Women and Substance Abuse
March 24th: Co-Dependency and ACOA
March 31st: Substance Abuse in the Family/ACOA
April 14th: Parents: Get Informed
April 21st: Violence and Alcohol/Drugs: The Anger Continues
April 28th: Health Risks of Substance Abuse
May 5th: Recovery: Issues, Resources and Relapse: Prevention

Guests may attend individual workshops or the entire series. A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to those who attend all workshops. In encouraging the attendance of any interested members of the community, the sponsors of the series remind us that substance abuse is a non-discriminatory disease. It can affect anyone and everyone, young and old, in all walks of life; the user as well as family and friends.
