Dr. Linda Ardito, Professor of Music and Dean of Dowling College's School of Arts & Sciences, has been named Provost of Dowling College

Dr. Linda Ardito has been named Provost of Dowling College
Dr. Ardito has served in a variety of capacities during her tenure at Dowling including Associate Provost of the School of Arts & Sciences, Chair of the Department of Music, Executive Chair of the Dowling College Faculty, Academic Chair of the Arts and Humanities Division, and Co-Chair of the 2001-2002 Annual Theme celebrating the "Contributions of Italians and Italian-Americans to American Culture."

Dr. Ardito holds a Ph.D. and an M.Phl. degree in Music from the Graduate School and University Center of the City University of New York. She also holds a B.A. in Music and an M.A. degree with a double major in Music Theory and Musicology from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College of the City University of New York.

Dr. Ardito is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including annual composers' awards from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). She is a member of the Board of Directors of The League of Composers International Society for Contemporary Music and the American Italian Historical Association. Dr. Ardito has been featured as guest speaker in television and radio media and has authored articles on contemporary composers, which appear in the most recent edition of The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians (Macmillan Publishers, London), the most highly acclaimed and comprehensive bibliographic research resource in the field of music. Among her current projects is the writing of a book titled Music and Early Greek Myths. Her extensive work in this area has been recognized by numerous scholarly publications and conference presentations both in the U.S. and abroad. Most recently, Dr. Ardito was named Honorary President of the International Association for Greek Philosophy (IAGP) for her scholarly contributions to the promotion of the study of Greek culture, philosophy and music.

Dr. Ardito resides in Hicksville, New York.
