'Hollywood and the Holocaust' Presentation at Dowling College

As part of its year-long celebration of Jewish and Jewish-American Contributions to American Culture, Dowling College is pleased to announce "Hollywood and the Holocaust" on Wednesday, March 8 from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. The presentation, which will be delivered by Prof. Leonard Quart, will be held in the Hunt Room of Fortunoff Hall, located at Dowling's historic Rudolph Campus in Oakdale. The event is free and open to the public.

The discussion will focus on how Hollywood evaded, blurred and finally dealt with the Holocaust. Some of the films to be discussed include: The Pawnbroker, Schindler's List, and The Pianist. Clips from these films will be shown.

Leonard Quart is Professor Emeritus of Cinema Studies at the College of Staten Island and at the CUNY Graduate Center. Prof. Quart is a contributing editor of Cineaste, and has written essays and reviews for Dissent, Film Quarterly, The Forward, London Magazine, and New York Newsday. His major publications include the third edition of American Film and Society Since 1945, which was co-authored with Albert Auster (Praeger, published in December 2001), also co-authored with Albert Auster, How the War was Remembered: Hollywood and Vietnam (Praeger, 1988), and the co-authored The Films of Mike Leigh for Cambridge University Press (2000).
