Jewish American Labor Leaders' Presented as part of Dowling's Line-Up of Cultural Events
As part of its year-long celebration of Jewish and Jewish-American Contributions to American Culture, Dowling College is pleased to announce Jewish American Labor Leaders: Men and Women in the Garment Industry, a presentation by Dr. Susanne Bleiberg Seperson, Professor and Chair of the Department of Sociology at Dowling.
The discussion will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2006 from 2:30 - 4:00 p.m. in the Hunt Room of Fortunoff Hall, located at Dowling's historic Rudolph Campus in Oakdale. This event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Bleiberg Seperson's interest in Jewish American contributions to the labor movement is an outgrowth of her involvement in the teacher's union as president of the full-time faculty at Dowling College, member of the Higher Education Council of NYSUT, election as a delegate to the 2004 Democratic National Convention as well as her family history.
Dr. Bleiberg Seperson received her graduate degree from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and undergraduate degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton. She is a past president of the New York State Sociological Association, the Executive Editor of the Journal of Business and Economic Studies and the current Faculty Union president. Dr. Bleiberg Seperson has received grants from the National Institute of Mental Health, the International Research Exchange (IREX) Foundation, and the Foundation for Long Term Care. Most recently she was honored by the New York State United Teachers Union as a Higher Education Member of the Year in 2003 and by the City University of New York Graduate Center with the Ph.D. Alumni Association Special Achievement Award in 2005. She is the co-editor of Elder Care and Service Learning: A Handbook, published by Auburn House, Westport, CT, 2002 and has published a number of articles on the Holocaust. She has been recognized as an outstanding teacher by inclusion in Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 2004 and 2005.
