Dowling Supplies Pomp & Circumstance as Over 100 Seventh Graders Celebrate Their College Graduation

This week, Dowling College provided the Pomp & Circumstance as more than 100 seventh grade students from Milton L. Olive Middle School in Wyandanch celebrated their 2015 graduation with a pledge to go on to college after high school, as part of the U.S. Department of Education's GEAR-UP program.

At the practice graduation ceremony for the Class of 2015, commencement remarks were delivered by Dowling College President Dr. Albert E. Donor, Wyandanch Superintendent Dr. Frank Satchel, and School Principal Gina Talbert. Dr. Kevin Jordan, Assistant Director of the Higher Education Opportunity Program at Dowling, provided an inspiring culminating speech. Students received commemorative GEAR-UP t-shirts and special certificates, and enjoyed a delicious breakfast buffet, donated by catering company Loven Oven. Dowling College Professor Ron Armanini provided musical accompaniment on piano.

Dowling College is one of only five institutions in New York State to be funded by the U.S. Dept. of Education on this round of GEAR UP programs - and the only one on Long Island. The Gear-Up program provides mentors and academic support services to help middle school students succeed throughout high school and attend college.
