Dowling College Eco-Summit II-2005 - Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Hurricanes, Bird Flu: How Will Long Island Survive?

How prepared is Long Island to withstand a tsunami or flu pandemic? These issues and others involving the strategies required to protect, enhance and preserve the Long Island eco-region will be discussed at The Long Island Eco-Summit II-2005 on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Dowling College's Rudolph Campus in Oakdale.

The agenda for this mini-symposium includes informative panel discussions by the region's leading researchers about their work on water quality, land use, and other crucial topics. A tour of Dowling's Kramer Science Center and Department of Earth and Marine Sciences Laboratories, continental breakfast and buffet-style lunch, is also planned. Welcome remarks will be made by New York State Assemblywoman Hon. Ginny Fields.

Several workshops are offered, including: Panel I - Parks, People and Pollution: L.I. Recreational Resources in Perspective; Panel II - Risk Assessment: Preparing for the Inevitable on Long Island; Panel III - Aquaculture: Aquatic Resources Feeding Long Island's Future; Panel IV - Development vs. Perspective: The Perennial Land Use Issue; and Panel V - The National Estuary Program - Long Island's Connections.
