The Anthony Giordano Gallery at Dowling College presents Gestures of Humanity: The Visual Language of Sidney Goodman and Paul Marcus

The Anthony Giordano Gallery at Dowling College presents, Gestures of Humanity: The Visual Language of Sidney Goodman and Paul Marcus. In conjunction with Dowling College's annual theme, Cultural Contributions of Jewish Americans, Manhattan-based ACA Galleries and Dowling College will collaborate on this powerful exhibition highlighting the drawings, paintings and sculpture of Sidney Goodman and Paul Marcus.

Sidney Goodman is considered one of America's most important living figurative artists. For 35 years he has focused intensely on the human form. Goodman uses his family and friends and other media resources as a starting place for exploring his fascination with unique shapes and gestures of mankind. Goodman incorporates life's complexities of survival, reinforcing undertones of despair and disaster in a powerfully realist style of painting.

Paul Marcus is an artist born and raised in New York City, as he states, "in the aftermath of Hitler's madness and the Atom Bomb, into a world of McCarthyism and the Korean War". Paul Marcus, artist and activist, is deeply and profoundly committed to exposing the cruel and unjust crimes that we, as a human race, commit one against the other: greed, power, discrimination, and war. Marcus's stand against apathy not only shapes his political and social views but also fuels his imagery as a painter and sculptor. With an expressively realistic aesthetic, the work resonates on a much larger-scale the conflicts and conditions of mankind.

Located at the corner of Idle Hour Boulevard and Biltmore Avenue in Oakdale, The Anthony Giordano Gallery at Dowling College is dedicated to exhibiting and promoting contemporary, innovative, and experimental work by established artists, unaffiliated artists, emerging artists, and artists primarily from the New York tri-state metropolitan area. Through exhibitions and education programs the gallery reflects, reinforces, and complements the curricular dimensions of the Visual Arts Department and addresses the cultural life and enrichment of the Dowling College community, the general public, artists, and the Oakdale community at large.

Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sunday 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Admission is free. For more information, please call 631.244.3016 or visit us online at www.dowling.edu.
