Dowling College Opens Its Doors To Local Students Affected By Katrina

Farrah LaRonde, who was about to begin her final term at the University of New Orleans before Hurricane Katrina forced her to evacuate to a family member's house on Long Island, has enrolled at Dowling.
Farrah has begun work toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Sciences. Dr. Albert E. Donor, President of Dowling, ensured that the enrollment process was expedited and special financial aid made available to accommodate Farrah, who says she is thrilled with the welcome and help she has received here.
In a show of support for our sister institutions located in the areas affected by Hurricane Katrina, and to local students who were planning to attend those colleges this semester, Dowling College will open its doors through Labor Day weekend to register students for the fall semester. Additionally, the college will waive all application fees.

The Enrollment Services offices will be open Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. to assist students with registering for classes. Though classes begin Tuesday, Sept. 6, students will have an opportunity to register until Friday, Sept. 9 with no penalty.

"Being a coastal community that has dealt with the impact of a catastrophic disaster such as 9/11, we understand the importance of coming together, opening our doors, and offering a safe alternative for the start of the academic year," said Albert E. Donor, Ph.D., President of Dowling College. "We will do everything possible to accommodate these students during this unsettling time," he added.

Registration takes place in Fortunoff Hall, located at Dowling College's Rudolph Campus in Oakdale, NY. For more information, please call 631-244-3030.
