Key Long Island Issues Addressed In Dowling College's Revamped Business Programs
Addressing crucial trends that impact Long Island businesses, The Paul and Terry Townsend School of Business at Dowling College has revamped its Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) degree in Accounting, along with six MBA programs, all of which received approval this week by the New York State Department of Education.
The revised degree programs address upcoming changes in New York State Public Accountancy Certification. Beginning in 2009, New York State will require CPA candidates to earn 150 credit hours before sitting for the CPA exam. With these newly approved programs in place, students entering Dowling College this fall will be able to qualify for the CPA exam by completing their BBA and their MBA.
In addition to covering soon-to-be-mandated content areas, Dowling took extra steps to "address the rising issues of globalization and stress the development of leadership skills," explained Dr. Debra Fleming, Dean of the Townsend School of Business. "Our professors have done an exceptional job of reinventing and reinvigorating the programs by updating curriculum content to exceed employer expectations," she said. "The majority of Dowling's business courses now emphasize ethics", Fleming added, noting the importance of educating responsible accountants and business leaders.
"We are now working to further enhance our undergraduate and graduate programs to match the employment trends we are experiencing on Long Island," Dr. Fleming continued, pointing out that the service, technology, finance and accounting sectors are experiencing growth in Nassau and Suffolk, while manufacturing jobs continue to decline.
The six revised Master of Business Administration degrees are in: General Management, Banking and Finance, Information Systems Management, Corporate Finance, Aviation Management, and Total Quality Management.
