WCBS 2 News Anchor Cindy Hsu To Deliver Dowling College Commencement Address

WCBS 2 Anchor Cindy Hsu will deliver the Dowling College commencement address on May 22, 2005.

Cindy Hsu, co-anchor of "CBS 2 News at Noon" and host of the daily segment "Parent 2 Parent," will address an estimated 1,000 graduates and their families at Dowling College's 43rd Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 22, 2005, 9:30 a.m., at the Nassau Veteran's Memorial Coliseum in Uniondale, NY.
Prior to joining WCBS-TV in 1993, Ms. Hsu worked as a reporter and anchor for WFRV-TV Green Bay, WI, and for WTOV-TV Steubenville, OH. Ms. Hsu began her broadcasting career as an associate producer for WTVR-TV Richmond, VA.
Ms. Hsu's work has been recognized with numerous awards. Most recently, she won an Emmy for Outstanding Single Hard News Story for "Smuggled From China," a piece on the horrific plights of Chinese refugees from the Golden Venture ship. Ms. Hsu also won an Emmy for Outstanding Coverage of an Anticipated Breaking News Story during the snowstorm of 1994. She has also been recognized by the North Jersey Press Club.
Extremely active within the Asian-American community, Ms. Hsu participates in the Big Sister program, sits on the Advisory Board of APEX, a group that pairs Asian professionals with recent immigrants and young people who need guidance, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Museum of Chinese in the Americas and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Additionally, she has been the co-chair of Cooks For Kids, an annual event that raises money for children living with AIDS and HIV. Ms. Hsu has also served on the Newswatch Advisory Council, which monitors fairness in journalism, and is a former President of the New York Chapter of the Asian American Journalists Association.
A world-class dragon boater, Ms. Hsu competes with team "Women in Canoe," who represented the United States in the 2001 World Championship.
Ms. Hsu recently returned from China where she adopted a baby girl named Rosie. Ms. Hsu was born in Honolulu, Hawaii to a Coast Guard family who moved every two to four years. She graduated from Virginia Tech University in 1988 with a degree in communication studies. She currently resides in New York City.
