Dowling College Presents a Free Mini-Conference on 'The Impacts of Offshore Energy Development on Coastal Marine Wildlife'

The Department of Earth & Marine Sciences at Dowling College, in partnership with the Coastal Research and Education Society of Long Island, Inc. (C.R.E.S.L.I.), will present a free mini-conference on the Impacts of Offshore Energy Development on Coastal Marine Wildlife.

Taking place on Wednesday, March 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Dowling's Melville Center at the Greenway Plaza, 145 Pinelawn Road, Suite 350S, the day-long conference will address relevant issues facing the varied proposals for energy development off of Long Island's shores.

The program will begin with a welcome presentation by Dr. John T. Tanacredi, Chairman of the Department of Earth & Marine Sciences at Dowling, followed by an overview by Dr. Artie Kopelman, President of C.R.E.S.L.I., Inc.

Featured speakers include: Scott Johnston, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, and Dr. Scott Newman, DVM, Wildlife Trust, Inc., who will present the "Impacts on Birds"; Dr. Greg Early, AIS, Inc., Marine Projects Manager and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Visiting Scientist, who will address the "Impacts on Pinnipeds"; Sharon B. Young, Marine Issues Field Director, Humane Society, who will discuss the "Impacts on Cetaceans"; and Samuel S. Sadove, Vice President of C.R.E.S.L.I., Inc., and Dr. Russell Burke, Hofstra University, who will present the "Impact on Turtles."

Following the informative presentations, a question-and-answer session will take place to encourage dialogue about the various impacts of offshore energy development on coastal marine wildlife.
