World's Longest Running Musical Takes The Stage At Dowling College
Special Performances of The Fantasticks, March 31 - April 3
The Dowling College Drama Club, in collaboration with the Dance, Drama and Music departments, will unveil a stellar performance of The Fantasticks, the world's longest running musical, from March 31 - April 3 at the Black Box Theater at Dowling's Performing Arts Center on the Rudolph Campus in Oakdale.
When the curtain rises, audiences will enjoy a story of young love as the starry-eyed boy and girl next door fall in love, yearn for the dangerous attractions of the world outside, then opt instead for fulfillment in each other's arms and in hearth and home. The creation of Tom Jones (book and lyrics) and Harvey Schmidt (music), The Fantasticks is the world's longest running musical and the longest running show in American theater history.
"Comprised mainly of Dowling students, the cast, stage management, crew, musicians, and set, costume, and lighting designers have produced and prepared a remarkable performance that's sure to impress even the most critical drama aficionado," said Dr. Kimberly Poppiti, Assistant Professor of Drama and Dance, who also serves as show director.
A special complimentary performance for local high school and community college students and teachers will be staged on April 2 at 2 p.m. Following this exclusive performance, a Cast and Crew Talk-back Session will take place to encourage dialogue about the show. To make reservations for the complimentary student show, please call Dr. Poppiti at 631-244-3347 or e-mail.
The Fantasticks is open to the general public and will take place on the following dates: Thursday, March 31 at 8 p.m.; Friday, April 1 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, April 2 at 2 p.m. (exclusive for students) and 8 p.m.; and Sunday, April 3 at 2 p.m.
General admission costs $10 per person.
