Margaret Intreglia of West Babylon High School Named Dowling College/News 12 Educator of the Month
Margaret Intreglia, a Social Studies teacher at West
Babylon High School and a resident of West Babylon, has been named a
2004-2005 Dowling College/News 12 Long Island Educator of the Month.
Nominations were accepted from schools throughout Nassau and Suffolk
counties, and a committee of distinguished educators selected the
winners.
A teacher in the West Babylon School District since 1974, Ms. Intreglia
has transformed her classroom into a courtroom as she teaches the U.S.
judicial process and American history through landmark court cases. She
was instrumental in creating the school's criminal justice curriculum
and founding its Mock Trial program, enabling students to compete
throughout Long Island.
"Ms. Intreglia's classroom is among the more dynamic I have
seen," said Dr. Clyde Payne, Associate Provost of Dowling\'s
School of Education, who visited West Babylon High School to present the
award. "In their active roles as jurors, prosecutors, and judges, her
students gain a unique perspective on the court system and our
nation\'s landmark cases."
Ms. Intreglia, who teaches Advanced Placement American History among
other courses, has received numerous awards, such as the West Babylon
Teacher Association Mentoring Recognition Award, and holds a certificate
of honor from the New York State Bar Association for individual effort
and participation as a team member in the Mock Trial Tournament.
A special feature highlighting Ms. Intreglia's award will soon air on
News 12. The 2004-2005 award winners and their guests will be honored at
a special dinner in June.
