Asian Education Systems Topic of Discussion At Dowling College

Faculty at Dowling College will present "Asian Education: A Kaleidoscopic Perspective," on February 16 at 4:00 pm in Room 110 of Fortunoff Hall on Dowling College's Rudolph Campus in Oakdale. This event is part of Dowling's yearlong celebration of Asian culture and is free and open to the public.

Three speakers, Dr. Francis A. Samuel, Assistant Professor of Secondary Education, Dr. Barbara Foster, Assistant Professor of Special Education, and Ms. Yu-wan Wang, Director of International Student Services, will provide insights into the educational systems of their respective native countries: India, Singapore, and Taiwan. Each presenter will provide a brief historical overview of the educational system with an emphasis on reform movements, discuss their country's educational systems within larger cultural contexts, and will talk about significant contemporary issues. There will be an opportunity for questions and answers following the presentations.
