Students, staff, faculty and members of the outside community came together in support of their neighbors by donating a record-breaking 278 pints of blood at blood drives at Dowling College's Oakdale and Brookhaven campuses on November 10-11. Donations more than doubled the amount yielded at Dowling's spring and fall blood drives last year. Incentive challenges for employees, student groups and athletic teams made for fun competitions and unprecedented results.
"I am so pleased to see the campus community come together for this worthy cause," said H. E. "Chuck" Broadbent III, Vice President for Institutional Advancement and chair of the College's Blood Drive committee. "We had extraordinary participation by administration, staff and students, with outstanding contributions from coaches and student athletes. We thank all members of our Blood Drive Committee, the volunteers who helped on the day of the drive, and all those who gave the gift of life."
"The competitive spirit exhibited by everyone at Dowling was phenomenal," said Karen Muscolino, Manager of Donor Recruitment at Long Island Blood Services. "We consider the efforts of Dowling College as a model for all organizations in the community."
