Dowling College Program Remembers Vietnam Babylift On 30th Anniversary

Author Lana Noone, a nationally acclaimed speaker and expert on the Vietnam Babylift, will recall her family's involvement in this historic 20th century event on December 8 from 4 to 6 pm in the Fortunoff Hall Hunt Room on Dowling College's Rudolph Campus in Oakdale. This event is part of Dowling's yearlong celebration of Asian culture and is free and open to the public.

In addition to sharing the saga of her adoption of two Vietnamese children evacuated from Vietnam during April, 1975, Ms. Noone will detail her subsequent work to help Vietnamese orphans remaining in Vietnam during the final days of the Vietnam War, and her efforts to provide passage for Amerasian children to the United States.

The Vietnam Babylift was a humanitarian effort that brought 2,500 children in harm\'s way to safety. The program will include a performance of traditional Vietnamese music, an exhibit of the Vietnam Babylift Quilt, and a display of Babylift memorabilia, including original documents, archival materials, and photos. Ms. Noone will sign copies of her book, "Global Mom: Notes From a Pioneer Adoptive Family" (Gateway Press, 2003).

Ms. Noone is the co-creator of the Vietnam Babylift website, the only site to link Babylift adoptees, families, the Vietnamese community, and Vietnam Veterans. She has worked as a Babylift researcher for several media organizations including People Magazine, the National Press, CBS, ABC, and for several documentary films. She has presented talks on the Vietnam Babylift throughout the country and has been interviewed on the topic by leading media outlets.

Ms. Noone, a classical flutist, has performed with groups in the United States and Europe, including the Orchestra of America, the American Concert Band, the Internationales Jugendorchester, Berlin, Germany, and as a soloist at the Edinborough Music Festival, Edinborough, Scotland.
